Getting Started

How do I rent a storage unit at Secure Storage? It’s easy. You can reserve a unit online through our rental portal, or call or stop by any of our six Oregon locations during office hours. Once your paperwork is complete, you’ll visit the office in person to receive your personal gate code. Don’t forget to bring a photo ID. Our on-site managers are happy to walk you through everything on your first visit.

Do I need to sign a long-term lease? No. Our storage rentals are month-to-month, so you’re not locked into a contract. You pay for the time you actually need, and when you’re ready to move out, you only pay for the days you’ve used — we prorate your final month. We do guarantee that your rental rate won’t increase for at least 12 months from when you start, so you’ll never be surprised by a sudden hike.

What do I need to bring when I move in? You’ll need a valid photo ID. If you’re planning to move in the same day you sign, it also helps to have a general sense of what you’re storing so we can confirm you’ve got the right unit size. And don’t forget — our free move-in truck is available at every location to make the day easier.

Can I reserve a unit online? Yes. Each of our locations has its own online rental portal where you can browse available units, check pricing, and complete your rental paperwork. Visit our locations page to find your nearest facility and get started.

Sizing & Unit Types Self Storage faqs

What size storage unit do I need? That depends on what you’re storing. As a general guide: a 5×10 unit works well for a dorm room or small apartment’s worth of boxes and furniture. A 10×10 handles a one-bedroom apartment without appliances. A 10×20 is typically enough for a two-bedroom home with appliances, and larger units accommodate full households or business inventory. The best way to be sure is to give us a call — our managers are good at helping you find the right fit without paying for more space than you need. You can also browse our unit sizes and pricing page for a full breakdown.

What types of storage units do you offer? We offer a wide range of unit types across our six locations, including standard self-storage units, climate controlled units, RV storage, boat storage, car storage, business storage, student storage, and mini storage units. Not every unit type is available at every location, so check your local facility’s page or give them a call to confirm availability.

Do you have climate controlled storage? Yes, climate controlled units are available at select locations. If temperature or humidity sensitivity matters for what you’re storing — think documents, electronics, antiques, or musical instruments — it’s worth asking about this option when you contact us. Currently, climate controlled units are available in Hillsboro, Hood River, Prineville, and Redmond.

Can I store a vehicle, RV, or boat? Yes. We offer dedicated storage for cars, boats, and RVs at several locations. If you have a large vehicle or recreational equipment that needs a home between seasons, reach out to your nearest location to check availability and sizing.

Pricing & Policies

How much does a storage unit cost? Pricing varies by location and unit size. As a general reference, smaller units (5×10) start around $75–$99 per month depending on the facility, with larger units scaling up from there. The best way to get an accurate quote is to visit your local location’s page, where current pricing is listed. All prices are subject to change, and availability varies. Visit our locations page to find current rates near you.

Are there any hidden fees? No. We don’t believe in surprise charges. There’s a $20 cleaning deposit when you move in, which is fully refunded when you move out and leave the unit clean. Your rent is prorated, so if you move out mid-month you only pay for the days you used. And your rate is locked for at least a year from your move-in date — we won’t raise it on you.

Is there a deposit? Is it refundable? Yes, there is a $20 cleaning deposit required at move-in. It is fully refundable when you vacate the unit and leave it in clean condition. That’s it — no large security deposits, no administrative fees buried in the fine print.

How do I pay my bill? You can pay online through the payment portal on your location’s page. Visit our locations page, select your facility, and use the “Pay My Bill” link. You can also pay in person during office hours.

Can I move out anytime? Yes. There’s no long-term commitment. When you’re ready to move out, let your on-site manager know, clear out your unit, and we’ll prorate your final month so you only pay for the days you actually used.

Security measures and Self storage faqs

How secure are your storage facilities? Security is central to everything we do — it’s been that way since 1987. Every facility has resident managers who live on-site and keep watch over the property around the clock. We use 24/7 computer-based video surveillance that covers the entire grounds and records license plates at entry and exit. Access is controlled by individualized gate codes, and each unit has its own alarm that arms and disarms based on your personal code. You can read more about the Secure Storage security difference on our security page.

What happens if I forget my access code? Stop by the office during business hours and our on-site manager will assist you. They’re right there on the property, so you won’t be waiting on hold with a call center.

Can I give someone else access to my unit? Your personal gate code is yours to manage. You can share it with someone you trust — a family member helping you move, for example. If you have questions about access policies at your specific location, your on-site manager can walk you through how it works.

Do you have on-site managers? Yes, at every location. Our resident managers live above the office at each facility, which means there’s always someone present — not just cameras. They monitor activity, respond to issues, and are available during office hours to answer questions, help with sizing, and get you set up with the free move-in truck.

Move-In & Access

What is the free move-in truck? Every Secure Storage location offers a free truck rental to help you move your belongings in. It’s available to all customers at no charge — just another way we try to make the process less stressful and more affordable. Ask your on-site manager to reserve it when you sign up. Learn more on our free move-in truck page.

What are your gate access hours? Gate hours are generally 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, seven days a week. Office hours vary by location. Check your specific location’s page for current hours, since they can differ slightly between facilities.

Can I access my unit on weekends? Yes. Gate access is available every day of the week. Office hours vary — most locations are open Monday through Saturday, with Sunday closed for the office, though gate access still applies. Check your local location page for specifics.

About Secure Storage

How long has Secure Storage been in business? Secure Storage has been family-owned and operated since 1987, when we opened our founding location in Bend, Oregon. Over the decades, we’ve grown to six locations across the state, but we’ve kept the same values: honest pricing, genuine security, and a personal connection to the communities we serve.

Are you locally owned, or part of a national chain? We’re independently owned and family operated — no national REIT, no corporate ownership structure. That matters to us because it means the people watching your stuff actually have a stake in the community. We also donate 10% of our net income to Oregon-based organizations as part of our commitment to giving back where we live and work. Learn more on our charitable giving page.
