Storage Unit Sizes and Prices in Oregon

Finding the right storage unit comes down to two things: getting the right size for your stuff, and paying a fair price for it. At Secure Storage, we’ve been helping Oregon families, students, and businesses do exactly that since 1987. We operate six locations across the state — in Ashland, Bend, Hillsboro, Hood River, Prineville, and Redmond — and while storage unit prices vary by location, our commitment to honest, transparent pricing is the same everywhere.

This page will walk you through what different storage unit sizes can hold, what you can generally expect to pay, and how to find current rates and availability at the Secure Storage location nearest you.

What Does a Storage Unit Cost Per Month?

Storage unit prices depend on three main factors: size, location, and whether the unit is climate controlled. Across our Oregon locations, monthly storage costs generally range from around $95 per month for a small 5×10 unit up to $250 or more for a large 10×30 unit. Climate controlled storage units cost more than standard units — typically in the range of 40 to 60 percent higher — because of the added systems required to maintain consistent temperature and humidity year-round.

Urban storage facilities and high-demand markets tend to charge more than suburban ones, which is worth keeping in mind as you compare online prices. Our locations in Central Oregon communities like Bend, Redmond, and Prineville generally offer more storage space and better value than facilities in denser metro areas. Average costs across all unit types and locations reflect those local market differences, so the best way to get an accurate number is to check your nearest location page directly.

Storage Unit Sizes: What Fits Where

Choosing the right storage unit size is the best way to avoid paying for more space than you need — or cramming your stuff into a unit that’s too small. Here’s a practical breakdown of the self storage dimensions we offer and what each size is best suited for.

Unit size comparison All units drawn to the same scale 5×10 50 sq ft 10×10 100 sq ft 10×15 150 sq ft 10×20 200 sq ft 5 x 10 10 x 10 10 x 15 10 x 20 10×25 250 sq ft 10×30 300 sq ft 10 x 25 10 x 30 One-car garage approx. same as 10×20 Two-car garage approx. same as 10×30 Prices from ~$95/mo (5×10) to ~$250/mo (10×30). Vary by location and subject to change.

5×10 — Small Storage Unit (50 sq ft)

Think of this as the size of a large walk-in closet. A 5×10 is one of our most popular small storage units because it handles a surprising amount: the contents of a dorm room or studio apartment, several boxes, seasonal gear like skis or camping equipment, or sports equipment you’re not using year-round. If you’re a Southern Oregon University student heading home for the summer, this is likely the storage space you need.

10×10 — Medium Storage Unit (100 sq ft)

A 10×10 is roughly the size of a standard bedroom. Medium storage units like this one are well suited for the contents of a one-bedroom apartment without large appliances, a couple of rooms worth of furniture and boxes, or small business inventory. It’s consistently one of the most rented storage unit sizes across all of our locations — a versatile, cost-effective option for a wide range of situations.

10×15 — Medium-Large Storage Unit (150 sq ft)

This size bridges the gap between medium and large. A 10×15 can comfortably hold the contents of two to three bedrooms, a one-bedroom apartment with appliances, or a meaningful amount of business inventory and supplies. It’s a good fit for families in transition — whether you’re moving, downsizing, or renovating — and a smart way to store furniture and larger items without paying for a full large unit.

10×20 — Large Storage Unit (200 sq ft)

A 10×20 is about the size of a one-car garage, which is exactly what many people use it for. This storage space is ideal for the contents of a two-bedroom home with appliances, an entire apartment’s worth of furniture, or a vehicle. If you’re heading into an Oregon winter and want to keep your car, truck, or van out of the elements, this unit size makes good practical sense.

10×25 — Large Storage Unit (250 sq ft)

The 10×25 offers a bit more room for households with three bedrooms worth of belongings, or businesses that need reliable storage space for inventory without committing to the largest unit available. It’s a practical choice when the 10×20 feels tight but the 10×30 seems like more than you need.

10×30 — Largest Storage Unit (300 sq ft)

Our biggest self storage units are equivalent to a large two-car garage. A 10×30 can store the contents of a large multi-room household, accommodate a work vehicle alongside business equipment and inventory, or serve as long term storage for a business going through a transition. If you’re not sure whether you need this much space, our on-site managers are glad to help you sort it out before you rent.

Vehicle, RV, and Boat Storage

We also offer covered and enclosed storage units for vehicles, RVs, boats, and trailers at select locations. Average vehicle storage costs more than standard self storage due to the larger footprint and added protection, but it’s significantly more affordable than leaving your recreational equipment exposed to Oregon’s weather year-round. Check your nearest location page for current vehicle storage availability and pricing.

Climate Controlled Storage Units

Climate controlled storage is available at our Hillsboro, Hood River, Prineville, and Redmond locations. These units maintain consistent temperature and humidity regardless of what the weather is doing outside — which in Oregon can mean anything from summer heat to wet, cold winters.

If you’re planning to store furniture, electronics, photographs, musical instruments, wine, artwork, or important documents, climate controlled storage is worth the added monthly storage cost. Items left without climate control can warp, crack, corrode, or grow mold over time. The extra cost is modest compared to replacing the stuff you’re storing, and the peace of mind is real.

Security at Every Location

Our tagline is “Who’s Watching Your Stuff?” — and the answer is: real people, plus a layered security setup at every facility. Every Secure Storage location features individual unit alarms, gated access, and video surveillance. More importantly, every location is managed by a resident on-site manager. That’s not a security service operating remotely from a call center — it’s a person who lives and works at the facility and knows what’s going on.

For most storage facilities, security is a bullet point on a features list. For us, it’s the whole point. When you rent with Secure Storage, you’re not handing your belongings over to a faceless company. You’re trusting real people who take that seriously.

Why Secure Storage Prices Are Different

We’re a family-owned business, founded in Bend in 1987, and every one of our six storage facilities is run by a resident manager — not a kiosk, not a remote access app. A few specific things that affect the cost and value of renting with us:

No surprise rate increases. We guarantee your rental rate will not increase for at least 12 months. Many storage facilities — especially national chains — raise rates within the first few months. We don’t.

Transparent fees. We charge a refundable $20 cleaning deposit. No administrative fees, no hidden add-ons. We don’t offer a free first month or special promotions because we’d rather charge a fair price from day one than bait-and-switch you later.

Prorated rent. You only pay for the days you actually use. Move in on the 15th, pay for half a month — it’s that straightforward.

Free move-in truck. Every location includes a free move-in truck for new renters. No rental fees, no mileage charges — it’s just part of the deal at all six locations.

Community giving. We donate 10 percent of net income to Oregon organizations. When you store with us, a portion of what you pay stays in the community.

Find Current Prices and Available Units at Your Location

Because our storage facilities are locally managed across different Oregon markets, storage unit prices and availability vary by location. A 10×10 in Hillsboro may be priced differently than a 10×10 in Prineville, and not every unit type is available at every facility.

The best way to see current pricing is to visit your nearest location page, where you can view available units, check current rates, and reserve your storage space online.

Not sure which unit size is right for you? Call or stop by any location. Our on-site managers are happy to help you figure out how much space you actually need — and save money by not renting more than you do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are storage unit prices the same at all Secure Storage locations? No. Storage costs vary by location and unit size. Each facility is locally managed, and pricing reflects the local market. Visit your nearest location page for current rates.

Do you offer a free first month or last month free? No. We don’t run those kinds of promotions. We focus on fair pricing from day one, a 12-month rate-lock guarantee, and prorated billing so you only pay for the time you actually use.

Do you offer discounts for paying in advance? No. We don’t offer advance-payment discounts. What we do offer is a guaranteed rate for at least 12 months — so you know exactly what you’ll pay without any surprises down the road.

Is a security deposit required? Yes. We require a refundable $20 cleaning deposit. It’s returned to you when you move out and leave the unit clean.

How do I know what storage unit size I need? The size guide above is a good starting point. If you’re still unsure, call the location nearest you. Our on-site managers can walk you through the options and help you avoid paying for more storage space than you actually need.

What items should go in a climate controlled unit? Climate control is a good choice for anything sensitive to moisture or temperature: wood furniture, electronics, photographs, instruments, artwork, wine, documents, and clothing. Climate controlled units are available at our Hillsboro, Hood River, Prineville, and Redmond locations.
